Abstract
The paper discusses the exchange of letters between Ignaz Goldziher and Walter Gottschalk (1891–1974) both before and after World War I, revolving around Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Najīramī’s (fl. fourth/tenth-century) Kitāb al-Aymān and Goldziher’s editorial work on the text, which was never published. The study concludes with a sketch of Gottschalk’s scholarly career after World War I, when he served as librarian at Berlin State Library and from 1935, when he was ousted from his position and eventually had to flee Germany.
