Description
Reproduction of a drawing by Emma Hoffmann of Albert Einstein. Hoffmann's son-in-law, Edward Lowinsky, was a Member of the Institute for Advanced Study's School of Historical Studies from 1952-1954. In 1979, he sent a letter (EB 217- pt. 2 - documents) to Einstein's secretary, Helen Dukas, regarding an exhibition catalogue of Hoffmann's art that featured this drawing of Einstein on the cover. The catalog is not in the collection. EB 217- pt. 2 - documents also includes a copy of the preface from the catalog, which very briefly describes Hoffmann's life and work. The preface was written by Alfred Newmeyer, Director, Mills College Art Gallery. The reproduction itself is not dated.
