Presentation in Berlin, Germany, of the first New Europe Prize

Institute Director Phillip Griffiths rises from his chair to speak to those gathered for the presentation in Berlin of the first New Europe Prize for Higher Education and Research. There were two recipients of the award, which was part of an initiative by a group of six scholarly institutes in Europe and the United States (including the Institute for Advanced Study) to encourage the establishment of similar institutes in the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
