Description
T.S. Eliot was a Member of the School of Humanistic Studies for the months of October and November of the 1948-1949 academic year. The invitation to Eliot was issued when Frank Aydelotte was the Institute's Director, but Eliot's stay came during J. Robert Oppenheimer's tenure as Director. While at the Institute, Eliot learned that he was to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, and he attended the Nobel ceremonies in Stockholm on December 10, 1948. The work that most occupied Eliot's attention during his stay at the Institute was his play, "The Cocktail Party."
This file is one of two containing chiefly administrative records of his visit that were maintained by the Office of the Director.
