Description
This portion of the Faculty file contains correspondence and other documentation relating to the portrait busts depicting Albert Einstein, including the two that the Institute for Advanced Study has on display. One of those was sculpted by Sergei Konenkov and the other by Jacob Epstein (see IAS Digital Collections: http://cdm.itg.ias.edu/cdm/). In response to an inquiry regarding his profession, Einstein once quipped that he was "an artist's model" reflecting the frequency with which he was asked to be the subject of a sculpture or painting. Some folders in the Director's Office Faculty files series include a processing note with the heading "Items Removed." These removed items are now located in the offprint collection of the Institute's Historical Studies-Social Science Library.
