Description
The first of two chronological files containing some of Institute for Advanced Study founding Director Abraham Flexner's notes and correspondence regarding establishing the Institute: in particular, addressing the question of which fields of study the Institute would pursue and which scholars would be invited to do that work. The correspondents are many and represent a wide scope of those associated with the academic community. Page 92 of this file appears to be a copy of the questions initially posed by Flexner to his correspondents. It should be kept in mind that other materials in the collection address the topics discussed in these files. For instance, Flexner's correspondence with Oswald Veblen. At this time, not all of these collection materials are digitally accessible.
