Flexner, Abraham, 1942-1981

Correspondence chiefly between the Institute's founding Director, Abraham Flexner, and Swarthmore President Frank Aydelotte, who served on the Institute's Board of Trustees and would succeed Flexner as Director of the Institute. The file contents include original letters from Flexner to Aydelotte and copies of Aydelotte's letters to Flexner, which suggests that these files were Aydelotte's while at Swarthmore and came with him once he assumed the directorship of the Institute. Rougly one-fifth of this file's contents date after Aydelotte's tenure as Director, so includes some correspondence with subsequent Directors, including J. Robert Oppenheimer.
