Presentation in Berlin, Germany, of the first New Europe Prize

Presentation in Berlin of the first New Europe Prize for Higher Education and Research. The award was part of an initiative by a group of six scholarly institutes in Europe and the United States (including the Institute for Advanced Study) to encourage the establishment of similar institutes in the countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Beginning fourth from the left are Institute Director Phillip Griffiths and award recipients Alexander Gavrilov and Andre Pleșu. Gavrilov was a Member of the Institute's School of Historical Studies during the 1991-1992 academic year.
