2009.0044 2.0 linear feetProcessing Information noteIn 2017, Archives Staff noticed problems with this series, including that folder entries lacked dates, box numbers weren’t always listed corresponding to the numbering of the physical boxes, and some of the files listed as located in Box 1 were not found there. Those seemingly missing files actually appeared to be located in other boxes within the same accession. Those file titles and box numbers in which they were found are: in Box 13, Frank Guggenheim Foundation; in Box 19, Texas Instruments Foundation and Tinker Foundation; in Box 20, UPS Foundation, Thomas J. Watson Foundation, Weizmann Institute of Science, Weizmann Institute of Science, Western Electric, Edwin Whitehead Fellow, and Carl Zeiss, Inc. In nearly all instances, there were two folders for each heading in the box indicated. Review of original processing documentation for this collection appears to explain much of the above: “discarded external publications, excess folders, separated Institute publications to verify against holdings; combined Box 1 and Box 2; eliminated Boxes 14 and 26; shifted contents so that foundation files were alphabetical again, with the exception of New Jersey, NEH, NIH, and NSF - still some files in Box 1/2 that could be integrated into foundations run; kept older AMIAS census to see if useful for CoS work but will plan to discard by summer 2011.” At the time this note is being written in 2017, it hasn’t yet been determined whether the further work noted in the last two items in the list above (“still some files in Box1/2 that could be integrated…” and “discard by summer 2011”) were or weren’t done. Tasks completed in 2017 included confirming box location of files, adding dates to each entry, deleting headings for files with incorrect locations (after confirming heading exists listed in correct location), adding headings for folders that were lacking, moving a couple of files that were in obviously wrong locations, and moving a file out of this accession that didn’t belong. |
