The reproduction, which is on heavyweight paper, is stamped on the back with a name ("Photo-art/J. Roseman/Artist-Peintre") and address in Paris, France. The artist's rendering itself is signed in the lower right with a name (perhaps, "Sharf") that differs from the one stamped on the back. The print is dark, so it is difficult to read, but it appears to say in the upper left: "Albert Einstein, MCMXXVII." If the latter has been deciphered accurately and the original indicates the date of 1927, a clue to the origins of this piece may exist in the collection, which includes a group portrait (EB 188) from the 1927 Institut International de Physique Solvay in which Einstein appears. His attire in that photograph greatly resembles this artist's rendering.SepiaPermission to use this image must be requested from the Institute's Archives.
