dc.description Scuplture titled New Piece. Tony Smith was born in 1912. Smith's original focus was on architecture, he became an apprentice under Frank Lloyd Wright in 1938, opening his own firm in 1940. In 1955 he turned to teaching, first at Hunter, Bennington, and then Princeton University. He completed his first major sculptural piece in 1957 and is known worldwide for his sculpture.
