Historical note
The IAS/Park City Mathematical Institute (PCMI) originated as the National Science Foundation's Regional Geometry Institute (RGI), which brought together researchers, graduate students, undergraduates, and high school geometry teachers for month-long programs in the summers of 1991, 1992, and 1993, held in Park City, Utah. After three years of successful programming, the organizers of the RGI approached the Institute for Advanced Study to become the institutional sponsor. IAS has been the sponsor of PCMI since the 1994 program.
The Mentoring Program for Women in Mathematics first took place in 1993 at Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, California. Beginning in 1994, women undergraduate and graduate students participating in the IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute summer program attended a nine-day program at the Institute for Advanced Study. The program's name was shortened to Program for Women in Mathematics beginning in 2003 and changed to Program for Women and Mathematics in 2006.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of files, photographs, publications, and realia of the IAS/Park City Mathematics Institute. Included are materials pertaining to the Mentoring Program for Women in Mathematics, the High School Teachers Program, and the NSF Summer Geometry Institute.
